Getting ready for Monday

As sit in my room going over the work that my third grader needs to complete next week, I realized that I have lost MY room. She does school all over the house, but my room is the home base.  My bookshelf that use to have my books is now full of The Magic School Bus, Stone Fox, Jr. novels, dictionaries, and thesauruses. I have tubs with pencils, markers, crayons, glue, glitter, and paint stacked all around. There is a map of the USA and a map of the world, along with a multiplication chart. There are hand made posters about the water cycle and American Indians. There are papers all over and a schedule for next week hanging up. It is amazing how my room has changed in less than a year, but I know that she is learning a lot and so am I.
Here is what is on the list this week

  • Math – the distributive property and order of operations
  • Science – the carbon cycle, water cycle, and changing environmental conditions
  • History – learning more about the original 13 colonies and the Boston Tea Party
  • Literature – reading non fiction, fact verses opinion, and the Declaration of Independence
  • Art- learning about the Incas gold and cloth
  • Spanish – another week of lessons last week she learned foods and drinks
  • Language skills – Finished for the year!!!

I am ready for a week of teaching, I hope she is ready for a week of learning.

About Me

Hi, and welcome to my blog! First I wanted to tell a little information about myself. I live in Southern California and have all of my life. I have worked in retail for the past 8 years. I was injured at work and have been off and on for the past two years. I recently found out that I am intolerant to corn. Yes you read that right corn. I didn’t even know that was something you could be allergic to, but it is. I am learning and adjusting but it will all work out.
I am twenty six and with the help of my mom I am raising my eight year old cousin. She is amazing. I started to virtual school her this school year through CAVA (California Virtual Academy). Basically I teach her the online curriculum and we learn at home. She still has a teacher that is available to help, and we still do state testing and turn in work samples four times a year. She has learned a lot this year and I don’t foresee her ever going to a “regular” school again. She loves gymnastics and has been doing it since she was two years old. She goes two to three times a week and absolutely loves it. My favorite place to go is Disneyland. Before I got hurt I would go at least twice a month. Sadly that isn’t happening right now as I can’t walk, but maybe soon. So there is a little about me. I don’t know how this blog will go or what I will talk about but I sure have a lot to say.
